She was elected to the bench in 2018 and made history as the first Colombian-American judge elected in the State of Florida.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Gonzalez-Whyte currently presides in the County Criminal Division at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building in Miami, where she handles criminal matters within the jurisdiction of the county court.<\/p>\n<p>Before joining the bench, Judge Gonzalez-Whyte built a diverse legal career in South Florida, practicing law in areas including criminal defense, family law, and civil litigation.
