Matthew Sutnick
My name is Matthew Sutnick, and I am a J.D. candidate at the University of Miami School of Law. I grew up in Miami in a multicultural environment and am fluent in Spanish, which shaped my interest in cross-border business and the ways legal and financial systems connect global markets.
Before law school, I worked in Ernst & Young’s International Tax and Transaction Services group, where I supported multinational clients on complex tax and transactional matters. Working closely with attorneys on these engagements sparked my interest in the legal side of tax planning and ultimately led me to pursue a career in law focused on corporate and transactional work.
Outside of school, I enjoy staying active, playing water polo, and following professional soccer.

Relevant Experiences
Prior to law school, I worked at EY in the Dallas International Tax and Transaction Services group, serving as both a Tax Staff and later a Tax Senior. I worked on complex federal income tax matters for corporate and partnership clients, including auditing tax provisions, preparing and reviewing federal tax returns, and ensuring compliance with domestic and international reporting requirements.
My work frequently involved multinational operations and collaboration with CPAs and attorneys across jurisdictions on tax research and planning issues related to transaction structuring, income recognition, and entity-level tax consequences. These experiences strengthened my interest in the legal analysis underlying tax planning and transactional decision-making.
