Angelo Gomez

My name is Angelo Gomez and I am currently a 2L at the University of Miami School of Law. I was born and raised in Miami, Florida, and I am proudly the son of Colombian immigrants. They have been my support throughout my entire life. I am a Miami Public Interest Scholar and serve on the Public Interest Leadership Board. I am currently in the UM Law Immigration Clinic and am passionate about immigration law. I am committed to becoming a public interest lawyer and helping immigrant families and individuals seeking a better life and future in this country.

I graduated from Florida International University in 2022 with a Bachelors in Journalism and Political Science. I volunteered with the FIU Law Immigration Clinic on multiple occasions and realized I wanted to go to law school to devote my career to helping my community. In Spring 2022, I interned in Washington D.C. and advocated for immigration reform and policies in Congress with the Hamilton Scholars program for the Honors College at Florida International University.

In law school, I have been a member of the UM Law Immigration Clinic, where I represented a detained client in removal proceedings. I had the opportunity to research, brief, and argue her case in the Orlando Immigration Court. It was a wonderful experience. I have also volunteered at Catholic Legal Services here in Miami, Florida; ProBAR in Harlingen, Texas; and at Al Otro Lado in both Tijuana, Mexico and San Diego, California. I spent my last summer internship in the Tenants’ Rights Unit at Legal Services of Greater Miami, and this upcoming summer I will be interning at Americans for Immigrant Justice.
