Tomas Carmona

I was born in Jacksonville, Florida, but I actually grew up in Medellin until I was five. I lived in Jacksonville until I went to the University of Florida for undergrad, where I got a BA in Political Science, with a History minor and a certificate in International Relations. Following graduation, I went back home to Jacksonville where I worked as a legal assistant for almost two years before coming to Miami to start law school.

My parents are my biggest motivators as they sacrificed their entire lives as doctors in Colombia to give me the opportunity to grow up and go to school in the US. I feel that it is only right for me to reach a position where I can make all their sacrifices pay off. Being a first generation American and law student gives me a unique outlook on life, which has helped keep me focused and grateful for all the wonderful opportunities and the privileges I have had.

I had been unable to visit the rest of my family in Colombia ever since I moved back to the US in 2008, but thankfully I was able to go twice last year. Being back in Medellin not only gave me the opportunity to reconnect with my family, but it also gave me further motivation to continue on my path to becoming a lawyer so that I can help all those back home.

Finally, on a more personal note, in my free time I love watching films and going to concerts. Feid is one of my favorite artists, especially as he has helped spread Colombian culture on a worldwide scale. I also love watching soccer and hope to one day be able to travel to Barcelona and watch a game in person.
